Thunder Basin volleyball coach Winette Martin has resigned from her position as the team’s head coach after the season.
Martin’s resignation appeared on the Campbell County School District Board of Education’s agenda at its Dec. 12 meeting, and was approved by school board members.
“I’ve reached the end of the season and I feel like it’s time to just be a mom,” Martin told the News Record.
Martin started at Thunder Basin when the school opened in 2017. In that time, the volleyball team has gone 188-66 and has never finished lower than fourth in the state tournament.
Last year was the second time the Bolts finished as runner-up in the state as the team lost to Laramie in the state championship game 3-2. The Bolts were down two sets before tying it back up and pushing for the final set. In 2019, the other year the Bolts finished runner-up, they lost 3-2 to Kelly Walsh in the tournament.
Prior to her time at Thunder Basin, Martin captained the volleyball team at Wright Junior-Senior High School from 2003-16.
