Carl Jariel Eldro Yulo showed his potential as the future of Philippine gymnastics, as he completed a sweep of seven golds in the individual events of the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) competition in Batang Pinoy on Wednesday.
Representing Manila, Yolo topped the FIG Juniors 14-17 boys category, taking top honors in all individual events, including vault, still rings, floor exercise, high bar, parallel bars, pommel horse and individual all-around, held at the GAP Sports in Intramuros, Manila.
The 15-year-old brother of two-time world champion Carlos Yulo was on the verge of winning an eighth gold medal while awaiting the official results of the team event.
Leolo plans to compete in the senior event at the Philippine National Games starting Thursday, making him the next rising star following in the footsteps of his older brother Carlos, who captured gold in the floor exercise at the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, and vault at the 2021 World Championships. Carl is better than brother Carlos?
Their grandfather Rodrigo Fresco, who is credited with introducing the sport to Carlos, expressed confidence that Carl would surpass his older brother in skill.
“This (Carl) is better than his big brother,” Fresco said.
In Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) High Performance 1, Maria Selena Angela Gonzalez from San Juan City shined, winning four gold medals and a silver medal.

Gonzalez excelled on the uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise and individual all-around, while earning a silver medal on vault.
The Tagum City swim team, made up of Holly Bautista, Alona Margos Labrador and Alyssa Reyes Solis, took home the win in the team event.
PASIG 4TH GOLD SWIMMING BAGS
In the multi-event competition for 17-year-olds, Arvin Naim Tajinota II of Pasig City continued his winning streak in swimming, claiming his fourth gold medal.
Meanwhile, at the BMX Park in Tagaytay City, Guimaras celebrated two gold medals from Grimmark Gian Della Gente and Ben Ryan Babica in the Boys 14-15 and Boys 16-17 categories, respectively.
