The 48th Imtimeren Memorial Open Volleyball Tournament, organized by the Longsa Sports Association and sponsored by concerned citizens and sports enthusiasts, was held on January 5 and 6 under the theme “Promoting the Younger Generation” at Salang Linden, Lungsa Village, Mokokchung.

G-Sports Mokokchung emerged as champions of the 2023 Imtimeren Memorial Open Volleyball Cup, while Fighting Peace secured second place with scores of 1:25-18, 2:25-12, 3:25-23 in a straight best-of-five set. The champion team received a cash prize of 50,000 rupees, along with certificates and a cup, while the runner-up team received a cash prize of 30,000 rupees, along with certificates and a cup.

Individual awards included the Best Spiker award for Watinokin. Best setter Tongpangsunep; Best Freestyle Player, Chubamanen from G-Sports Mokokchung; and Best Player of the Tournament Bendangtemsu from Fighting Peace. A total of 6 teams participated in the tournament, namely Lion’s Club Longsa, G-Sports Mokokchung, and Fighting Peace in Group A, and Eagle’s Club Longsa, Evergreen Club Ungma, and UYC Moalenden in Group B.

During the inaugural program on 5 January, Opanglemba GB commended the Longsa Sports Association for keeping pace with the ever-evolving sporting landscape. He urged the association to work tirelessly in providing a platform for young sports enthusiasts by introducing other sports in the future in addition to the open volleyball tournament. Obanglimba also urged the participating teams and players to give their best, as it reflects their personality and helps build a confident and humble attitude towards oneself and society.

During the closing ceremony, N. Takala gave a brief speech about how an athlete should behave in different situations. Winning once does not guarantee a future without losses or vice versa. She urged the players to remember their Creator in times of joy and sadness, which will help them become winners in life.
