UW-Whitewater is about to launch its official 2024 gymnastics season and the athletes couldn’t be more excited about the anticipated start. The hope is that we start strong, and get some top results to set the standard for the rest of the season. With big goals in mind, all eyes are on the prize for these girls, and they’re ready to give it their all.

“We are a very young team with a lot of potential! I have a lot of goals for this team this season. Obviously I want us to win a national title as a team, but we have to take it one game at a time and focus on our short-term goals! I’m excited for this exciting season that lies ahead of us said junior gymnast Kara Welsh.

While preparing a strong team going into the season, the coaching staff knew there were some spots that needed to be filled. Through the recruiting process, the Warhawks have been able to find multiple facets of success.

“We have brought talent into our recruiting process from all over the country. The staff has worked hard to add depth to our lineup. We have also brought in 3 very strong and talented individuals from the transfer portal,” said head coach Jennifer Regan.

Once a strong team was assembled, the girls eagerly awaited the start of the season and began working hard.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the depth within our lineup. This team has worked hard over the offseason to raise the level of difficulty in every event, to challenge each other and be the best team they can be. The team is all in all together,” Reagan said.

While looking to complete pre-season work, there were some specific goals that the team spent time focusing on.

“We’re looking to improve our consistency and confidence. The team is also looking to trust the process every week, to get 1% better every day in and out of the gym,” Regan said.

By focusing on these aspects, the Warhawks have some big goals at the forefront of their minds.

“The Warhawk gymnastics team has been hungry since last year, and we have been working hard for this season. We have focused on mindset and how to use nerves as fuel,” Welch said.

Mind games are very important in tough sports like gymnastics, and girls know they have to have a strong headspace in order to complete these big goals.

“The goal this season is to compete for the conference and national championship. We want to come back and show everyone what Warhawk Gymnastics is all about,” Reagan says.

The Warhawks are thrilled to be able to showcase their skills and accomplishments for this upcoming season. Their first chance to make some big plays will be Jan. 11 at UW-Eau Claire.
