The huge controversy erupted last week during a Legends League Cricket (LLC) match where former India teammates S Sreesanth and Gautam Gambhir went head-to-head against each other. In a series of videos and social media posts, the former India pacer claimed that Gambhir called himself a ‘fixer’ during the match. On the other hand, the former opening batsman did not show any reaction, amid some serious allegations by Sreesanth. However, he has now taken a careful dig at Sreesanth.

During a ‘Wrong Answers Only’ session with Sportskeeda, Gambhir was asked to name one player he was afraid to face. He had a sarcastic smile on his face when he took Sreesanth’s name.

While Sreesanth explained his side of the matter on social media, Gambhir only took to Instagram, and shared a mysterious post. The caption on the post read: “Smile when the whole world revolves around caring!” But Sreesanth was not pleased and wrote a comment on Gambhir’s post, asking if he was “above the Supreme Court”.

“You have gone beyond sportsman and brother, and above all, you represent the people. And yet, you continue to engage in conflicts with every cricketer. What’s wrong with you? All you did was smile and observe, and ‘You called me a middleman?’ Seriously? Are you above the Supreme Court? You don’t have the authority to talk like that and say whatever you want. You even verbally abused the referees, yet you talk about smiling? You are arrogant and “a completely classless person who lacks any form of respect for those who supported you. Till yesterday, I always respected you and your family,” Sreesanth wrote in the comments section of Gambhir’s post.

Last week, NDTV sources confirmed that Sreesanth had received a notice from the Legends League Cricket Commissioner over his social media outburst.

According to the legal notice issued by the LLC, Sreesanth’s social media talk about the on-field incident amounted to a “breach of contract”. The notice is believed to have stated that Sreesanth cannot be interviewed until he removes all the videos he posted on social media. The notice was also said to have emphasized that the on-field umpires had not reported Gambhir using any expletives on the field.

As the matter took a legal turn, the controversy became more complex.
