kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Gymnastics Federation (MGF) plans to appoint former national rhythmic gymnasts Kui Si Yan and Azza Amzan as assistant coaches for the national team next year.
MGF Vice President Petrina Lu said former Commonwealth Games medalists Aza and Si Yan would be appointed on a part-time basis as they are still studying at tertiary institutions.
“We are still in discussions and are both keen to join MGF.
“We are offering them the job based on their experience as a national gymnast,” she told Bernama after a Sports Action Committee meeting with the National Sports Council in Bukit Jalil here today.
Petrina said that Aza and Si Yan will fill the vacant positions of the two foreign coaches, Dr. Svetlana Mikantsishvili from Georgia and Lidia Legutina from Russia, whose contracts have expired.
She said MGF would appoint a new coach from Russia next year to strengthen the coaching squad.
At the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, Si Yan won three silvers, in the team event with Azza and Amy Kwan Dict Wong, the individual ball and clubs, and bronze in the individual bar.
Azza also won the bronze medal in the individual clubs at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
