The Badgers Never Played “Ugly” Volleyball - Bonnie Clayton

I’m a little sensitive about Badgers women’s volleyball.

Sportswriter Jim Polzin labeled Wisconsin’s loss in the NCAA semifinals “ugly” in his December 15 column. What a cheap shot.

When two elite programs meet, one of them will lose. I have to say I’ve never seen an ugly Badgers volleyball game. The sportsmanship of these players is beyond beautiful. I feel blessed that I was able to be an observer at the Fieldhouse.

The Texas Longhorns certainly had to be a powerhouse to reach the Final Four. Our badger women never played ugly and never played. That trait was undeserved, and very poorly chosen.
