City Sports Club advances to the finals with champions City eliminated from the tournament

Sporting Club City, the defending FIVB Cup men’s champions, were eliminated from the tournament after losing in the first semi-final, while this year’s newcomer, City Sports Club, earned their place in the finals.

The group stage ended, and the semi-final matches began yesterday. In the first match of the evening, defending champion City lost to runner-up WAMCO in three sets.

WAMCO secured the sets with a score of 25-22, 25-20, 25-19 on the indoor court of the social center. WAMCO’s overseas player Diego Matthews Caualcante dos Santos was named Man of the Match.

As a result, the champions team was eliminated from the competition, and WAMCO now faces FC Urbanco in the next semi-final. Club Urbanco previously lost to Sports Club City in the second semi-final match held on Sunday. The third semi-final between Wamco and Urbanco is scheduled to take place at 8:15 pm tonight.

Urbanco and Sports Club City also qualified for the League Cup through their participation in the preliminary round.

In the second semi-final, City defeated Urbanco 3-1. City won the first set 30-28 in the opening game of the match. Although Urbanco led 25-22 in the second set, City won the next two sets 25-15, 25-20 to secure an outright place in the final.

City’s foreign player Omapek Zonosov was named man of the match for City’s semi-final match against Urbanko.
