Within hours of Pat Cummins being signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad, compatriot Mitchell Starc broke all records and pipped Pat Cummins to a whopping ₹24.75 crore. Kolkata Knight Riders have acquired Mitchell Starc for a record fee. Bidding was intense with Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals fighting for him up to Rs 9.60 crore. It was then Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans who pushed Starc’s price beyond Rs 20 crore. Finally it was KKR who signed Starc.
Mitchell Starc was making his return to the Indian Premier League after a 9-year absence. He played IPL in 2014 and 2015 for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Australian Josh Hazlewood is another unsold this year.
Although Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians started the bidding, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore aggressively bid for Pat Cummins pushing his price beyond the Rs 10-crore and Rs 15-crore mark. Its base price was ₹2 crore.
The World Cup-winning Australian captain played for Kolkata Knight Riders until 2022 before opting out of the 2023 edition of the tournament.
