In a surprise revelation, NFL player Jonathan Owens recently shared the story of how he first connected with his now-wife, gymnastics star Simone Biles, on exclusive dating app Raya. Owens, 28, revealed details of their initial meeting during a candid conversation on the podcast “The Pivot,” hosted by former NFL stars Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor and Channing Crowder.
According to Owens, he had only been on the app for a few days when Biles, a highly decorated gymnast, came up as a potential match in 2020. Admitting his lack of knowledge about gymnastics, Owens swiped right, only to discover they were a mutual match. . The Green Bay Packers’ running back, who was playing for the Houston Texans at the time, shared that Biles found his Instagram profile and liked his posts, which led to a message from her saying: “Hi.”
“I didn’t know who she was at the time,” Owens admitted, expressing disbelief at first. However, their relationship deepened when they began texting, eventually leading to an in-person meeting in Houston just days later.
Despite Owens’ initial hesitation to commit, the couple quickly agreed to it during their first hangout. Owens recounted the moment he realized how famous Biles was as they walked in public, with fans, especially children, reacting with awe and admiration.
Throughout the podcast, the hosts playfully teased Owens about him being the “least popular” athlete in the relationship. Despite the joking, Biles defended Owens and confidently asserted that in a few years people would be referring to her as “Jonathan Owens’ wife.”
The couple’s relationship history came under scrutiny on social media after the podcast aired, particularly a comment from Owens suggesting that men are the “catch” in relationships. In response to the backlash, Owens shared photos from their wedding day on Instagram, with the caption, “Not fazed 😂❤️ Just know we’re locked in here” and a crosshair emoji. In his comment on the post, Biles echoed his sentiments with the phrase “for life” along with a lips emoji.
