Former Nebraska two-sport athlete Maggie Mendelsohn has committed to Penn State, she announced on social media.

As a Nittany Lion, Mendelsohn, a 6-foot-5 middle blocker, will focus on volleyball rather than juggling volleyball and basketball.

“So are we,” Mendelsohn wrote in her Instagram post, adding blue and white hearts. “I am so grateful for my experience at my previous school. All of the people I have met will be a huge part of my life forever. However, I am so excited to have the opportunity to continue my journey at Penn State! I am so grateful for my experience at my previous school. I cannot wait to be In Happy Valley!

She has two years of eligibility remaining in volleyball and has three years left for basketball.

Penn State was in need of a middle blocker, as graduate student Allie Holland exhausted her eligibility. Mendelsohn will likely compete with Taylor Trammell, who has one year of eligibility remaining.

Mendelsohn played in 13 games for Nebraska this season, starting in Nebraska’s first-round NCAA Tournament game against Long Island. She totaled 27 kills in 63 swings for a hitting percentage of .317%. She has added four digs and 15 blocks this season — with four of those coming against Long Island.

In basketball last year, Mendelsohn played in 22 games and averaged 2.0 points per game in 7.3 minutes per contest as a freshman.

At Nebraska, the scholarship counted for the basketball team, not the volleyball team. There are currently no volleyball scholarships available at Nebraska.

After graduating from Fremont High School in Ogden, Utah, Mendelsohn was the No. 4 player in the country for volleyball and No. 32 for basketball.

With Mendelsohn moving out, Nebraska volleyball now has just two middle blockers on the roster: rising junior Becca Alec and rising sophomore Andy Jackson.

She was the tallest female basketball player in Nebraska. Without her, there are only two other Nebraska basketball centers: standout junior Alexis Markowski and senior Annika Stewart. Markowski and Stewart are both 6-3.

Mendelsohn was the fourth Nebraska volleyball player to enter the transfer portal this offseason.

Mendelsohn joins redshirt sophomore outside hitter Caroline Jurevicius at Penn State while rising redshirt sophomore outside hitter Hayden Kubiak committed to Tennessee earlier this week. Former outside hitter Whitney Lowenstein announced in December that she was transferring to Texas.
