Maharashtra wins gold in women's team event

Delhi and West Bengal won silver and bronze medals respectively.

The second day of the 2023-2024 National Junior Artistic Gymnastics Championships was filled with impressive performances in the women’s team category. Maharashtra emerged victorious, Delhi bagged the silver medal and West Bengal bagged the bronze medal in the women’s team category at the Junior National Championships at the Gymnastics Centre, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

Maharashtra scored a total score of 161.20, Delhi scored a total of 153.60 points and West Bengal scored a total of 153.40 points. Host team Odisha finished fourth with a total of 150.40 points while Telangana finished fifth, scoring a total of 144.90 points.

Kailash Chandra Das, Joint Secretary, Sports and Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha, graced the medal ceremony and distributed medals to the winners.

In the individual all-around classification, Nishika Agarwal from Telangana finished first with 44.25 points. She scored 13.35 points on the vault, 9.30 on the uneven bars, 10.60 on the balance beam, and 11.00 on the floor exercise.

Sumili Karar from West Bengal took second place with a total of 42.45 points, scoring 12.50 points on the Vault, 7.65 points on the Uneven Bars, 11.75 points on the Balance Beam, and 10.55 points on the floor exercise.

Sara Rawal from Maharashtra ranked third. She scored an all-around score of 41.60 points on the Vault Back (12.35), Uneven Bars (9.40), Balance Beam (10.35) and Floor Exercise (9.50).

  8. Nishi Bhavsar (Gujarat) – 38.60 points

Individual gymnasts in the men’s and women’s categories will compete on the final day of the 2023 National Junior Artistic Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, December 30, 2023.
