Oregon State fans had the opportunity to see Olympian Jade Carey along with several other young Beavers in OSU’s first meet of the season on Saturday at Gill Coliseum.

Sophomore Eli Weaver, who was in the Beavers’ bars rotation last year, finished with a 9.875 on bars and led the team with a score of 9.825 on floor.

Junior Sage Thompson, one of only two Beavs to compete in all four tournaments, finished with an overall score of 39.3 points.

While practicing both her group routine and elite routine, Carey scored the only 10th of the day on beam and finished with a 9.925 on bars.

Now that the Olympian has two years of collegiate experience under her belt, Carey is excited about how much she has grown as a leader helping some of the younger gymnasts on the team feel comfortable and ready to compete at the collegiate level.

“It’s great to be one of those people that they look up to and that they come to when they need help, and that’s really what it’s about. Just helping each other succeed and wanting each other to succeed,” Curry said.

The Beavers will begin their season with the Rutgers January Quad on January 13 and then return home for their first home meeting on January 21.
