For the third straight season, St. Louis finished first. Thomas More Cougars are Division II volleyball state champions.
Setter Ryan Micotto was a major reason the Cougars captured the title last season.
“Ryan is our do-it-all player,” Cougars coach Jessica Burke said. “She is special. We were a much better team because of her. She is the player we need to be as successful as we want to be.”
With Miciotto leading the way, the Cougars went 35-5 on the year and won the Division II District
“I think we had a really great season,” Misciuto said. “Our team has worked so hard, and it has been so amazing to see how much effort everyone has put in this season. We all have had to step up and take on bigger roles.
Miciotto finished the season with 499 assists, 307 digs, 189 kills, 33 aces and 19 blocks.
“I gave it my all,” she said. “Obviously some games were better than others.”
For her efforts, Miccioto was named the Acadiana Advocate Metro Volleyball Player of the Year.
“This is a huge accomplishment,” Miccioto said. “But none of it would have been possible without my teammates and coaches encouraging me every day. They didn’t let me get complacent, and that really helped me.”
