Simone Biles makes history again!

The seven-time Olympic medalist has been named the Associated Press Athlete of the Year for 2023, and we don’t know anyone who deserves it more! The news was announced on Friday, December 22, making it the third time the 26-year-old athlete has won the title during her career, having previously held the title in 2016 and 2019.

After a brief hiatus from gymnastics, Biles announced her highly anticipated return to the sport in July 2023, and she picked up where she left off, completely dominating every event. She captured her historic eighth all-around title at the US Championships and won her 20th World Championships title, all within a few months of her return. She even became the first woman to double spear Yurchenko which led to the vault being named after her. Finally, with her sixth all-around title, she officially became the most decorated gymnast in history!

Off the mat, Biles is quite happy and successful. The beauty tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend, Green Bay Packers tight end Jonathan Owens, in May 2023, and she’s been smiling ever since. The couple said “I do” in a private ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The tropical occasion included 140 of the couple’s closest friends and family members, and, as the athlete recently shared in an Instagram message, it was her “best moment of 2023.”

And while Simone Biles is certainly enjoying her marital bliss, she has expressed her plans to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. If she steps on the carpet again, we already know she’ll be racking up more accolades as the GOAT!

Congratulations to Simone Biles!
