Simpson College volleyball graduate Marissa Salber has been selected as a finalist for the 2022-2023 Joanna Olson Scholar-Athlete Award, the American Rivers Conference announced.
Salber joins Thea Luning (Central, golf, triathlon), Cassie Parker (Loraas, cross country, track and field), and Sydney Ilg (Wartburg, softball) as this year’s finalists. All four athletes will appear before the full group of nine Athletics representatives for review and voting, with the winner scheduled to be announced on January 9, 2024.
Salber, a four-year member and three-year captain of the Storm volleyball team, graduated summa cum laude in December 2022 with a degree in management. She is a three-time Academic All-Conference honoree, earned 2022 College of Sports Communications Academic All-Region honors, and was awarded a prestigious NCAA graduate scholarship to attend the University of Nebraska College of Law.
On the field, Salber earned first-team all-conference recognition in 2022 after landing on the honorable mention team as a junior. She compiled 1,647 assists, 514 digs, 174 kills, 65 aces and 56 blocks from her set position and played a crucial role in the Storm reaching the ARC Championship twice after a seven-year postseason drought.
