Pikeville senior Maddie McAfee and junior Hannah Hester were named to the Texas Coaches Association 2A girls volleyball team.
This is the first such honor for both McAfee and Hester, who helped lead Beckville to the 2A Region III regional semifinals this season.
Panola women’s basketball
Taja Stevens came off the bench and scored a game-high 17 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the Panola College women’s basketball team to a 57-37 win over visiting Western Gulf on Wednesday.
Triana Coppock scored eight points with 13 rebounds, while Itaria Gibbons and Janie Southall each scored seven points, while Southall dished out four assists.
Alexa Vest and Elizabeth Nagudi each scored six points, with Vest adding six boards and Nagudi eight.
Panola led West Bay 36-23 at halftime.
Panola (5-4) will visit No. 9 seed McLennan on Saturday at 2 p.m
This will be the Fillies’ final match until New Year’s Day when they face Panola Hill in the Evelyn Blaylock Classic at Kilgore College.
Pikeville girls basketball
Senior Lexi Barr scored a team-high seven points with six rebounds and a pair of steals and fellow senior Natalie Pelzel scored six points, but the Pikeville Lady Cats basketball fell 51-31 to East Texas Home School in an opening-round game in the Harlton tournament on Thursday.
Jaidyn Flanagan and Ayanna Burroughs each scored five points for the Ladycats.
Pikeville will wrap up play in the Harlton tournament on Saturday and will begin District 23-2A play Tuesday at home against No. 5 seed Tenaha.
