The Texas Longhorns swept the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the NCAA National Volleyball Championships in Tampa on Sunday afternoon.
Nebraska and Texas battled back and forth throughout the first set, but the Longhorns eventually pulled away and won 25-22.
The Huskers took a 10-7 lead in the second set before Texas went on an 11-0 run, which included four straight aces.
Nebraska was never able to recover, and the Longhorns won the final two sets 25-14 and 25-11.
Back in Lincoln, several hundred fans attended a watch party at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Husker fans got loud in the first set, but Texas’ run in the second sapped the energy in the building.
Despite the loss, most Husker fans were proud of how the season went, including Sarah Pearson.
“We had a volleyball day at Nebraska, beat all these higher-ranked teams, and won the Big Ten Championship,” Pearson said. “Things may not have ended the way we wanted, but I’m still very proud of this team and we have a lot to look forward to.”
This year’s Nebraska team doesn’t have any seniors, which gives Pearson — and many other Husker fans — hope for the future.
“We bring back every player from this season and I’m saying it now: we’ll be back next year,” Pearson said.
