Women's basketball defeats Brooklyn College (61-56)

The women’s basketball team defeated the 4-time defending champion CUNYAC Champions Bulldogs from Brooklyn College, 61-56, in an exciting CUNYAC home contest on Wednesday night at ARC Arena.

The Bearcats broke a 56-56 tie with 1:05 left by scoring the final five points for a victory that moved them to a 2-0 record on the CUNYAC schedule heading into the season.

Mia Castillo She connected on her fourth 3-pointer of the game with 35 seconds left for a 59-56 lead.

Brooklyn missed their next two shot opportunities and also missed two free throws on their next possession that enabled the Bearcats to get the ball back.

Elissa Leung She was quickly fouled and hit two free throws for a 61-56 lead that ended in the final score to end a 14-game losing streak to Brooklyn.

Castillo led all scorers again with 31 points, while Leung scored 12 points in the important win at home.

DeAndre McRae He finished the game with 14 rebounds and Precious Mitchell recorded eight rebounds.

The visiting Bulldogs struggled with 23 turnovers. Alina Estrella led their team with 15 points.
