Green Bay Packers defensive back Jonathan Owens is facing lying charges amid backlash over his revelation of how he met his wife, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles.
Earlier this week, Owens claimed he didn’t know who Biles was before they started dating.
“I didn’t know who she was at the time, but the first thing I saw was that she had a bunch of followers. So in my mind, well, she must be good.
“I promise you. Me, true life story… When she won the Olympics I was in college and we didn’t have NBC, we didn’t have the Olympics Channel and we were at camp. We’re at camp. Late July early August. So I don’t care about that, as You know, so I didn’t have a moment to go to where I was going to watch it.
Owens has received a lot of backlash from Biles’ fans for his story, and now some believe he made the whole thing up.
On Friday, fans uncovered an old tweet of Owens talking about the gymnastics team in 2012, which put a huge spotlight on Biles.

Fans believe this proves that Owens knew who Biles was before he dated her.
Owens appears to be responding to the social media backlash with an Instagram post titled “Unfazed.”
