The Wisconsin Badgers added another piece to the roster with the apparent commitment of former Montana Grizzlies player Carly Anderson on Saturday night.

Anderson, listed at 5-foot-9 on Montana’s roster page, was a two-time All-Big Sky Second Team player. As the Griz’s starter last season, Anderson averaged 9.49 assists per set, recorded 1.82 digs per set, and tallied 54 total blocks. The player was also a threat from the Griz service line, leading the team in aces with 42 aces on the season, which equates to 0.38 aces per set.

Anderson, a native of Mississauga, Ontario, will have one year of eligibility when she comes to the University of Wisconsin as a graduate transfer. She will be the third player on the Badgers’ roster following the 2024 commitments of Charlie Forbringer and Morgan Van Wee.

Although Fuerbringer is expected to eventually take over the reins as the Badgers’ long-term starter — perhaps even for the 2024 fall season — Anderson will serve as a crucial bridge for Wisconsin, which, without her signing, will be without a true setter through the spring.

Anderson’s serving prowess could also indicate that she will be a serving specialist in the rotation, and her addition means the Badgers could use a 5-1 or 6-2 system.

Either way, the Badgers add another Canadian to the roster — Anna Smric hails from Ontario as well, as does freshman from abroad Trinity Shadd-Ceres — and a crucial piece of depth for next season.
