AB buys Indian Premier League team Mumbai

Mumbai, Dec 18 (PTI) Superstar Amitabh Bachchan on Monday announced his association with the Indian Premier League (ISPL) as owner of the Mumbai team.

ISPL is India’s first T10 cricket tournament to be played indoors, according to a press release. The inaugural edition is scheduled to be held from March 2 to 9 in Mumbai.

The tournament will feature 19 high-intensity matches, featuring a lineup of six teams – Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata and Srinagar.

Bachchan said that joining the league represents a new beginning for him.

“A new day.. and a new project.. for me it is an honor and a privilege to be with Mumbai as a team owner, and to be privy to the exploding wave of talent, for a future of great vision..,” the 81-year-old veteran actor wrote on his personal blog.

He described ISPL as an exciting and noble concept.

“An opportunity for them who have shown their abilities in the streets and furrows to take to home pitches to play cricket, now to be selected for a professional team and showcase their talent in official settings in front of millions around the world!” He further said in his post.

Recently, actors Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan were announced as the owners of the Srinagar and Bengaluru teams, respectively. PTI
