The International T20 League has banned fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq for 20 months for breaching the player agreement with Sharjah Warriors, who signed him for the first season of the tournament. The Warriors offered Naveen another year’s extension, but he refused to sign a retention notice for a second season.
Naveen played for Sharjah Warriors in the first season of the ILT20 (January-February 2023) who earlier this year served him a notice to retain the same terms and conditions as per the terms of the player agreement.
Sharjah Warriors has reached out to ILT20 to intervene in this dispute. ILT20 first initiated the mediation process through an independent third-party mediator, but the mediation failed.
The ILT20’s three-member disciplinary committee, which includes league chief executive David White, head of security and anti-corruption Colonel Azzam, and UAE Cricket Board member Zayed Abbas, separately heard both parties, namely Naveen and Sharja Warriors, and examined the evidence before the court. They communicated their final ruling banning Naveen for 20 months.
ILT20 CEO David White: “We are not proud to make this announcement but all parties are expected to comply with their contractual obligations and recognize that non-compliance could cause harm to the other party. Unfortunately, Navin Al-Haq failed to fulfill his contractual obligations with Sharjah Warriors, and thus The league had no choice but to impose this 20-month ban on him.
“The disciplinary proceedings against Naveen were carried out in a transparent manner and both parties involved were given opportunities to prepare and submit their submissions.”
