The Indian women’s cricket team registered a historic win over Australia as the two teams competed in a Test match. Tensions flared in the high-profile encounter, with the India captain also involved in an on-court tussle with her counterpart Healy. However, as the match ended, Healy showed off her excellent sportsmanship as she picked up the camera to snap a picture of the Indian team on this historic occasion. The Australia captain was also duly praised on social media for her gesture.

Australia captain Healy, despite the defeat, called for more Test matches to be scheduled.

“At the end of the day, it was a really fun experience,” Healy told reporters after the match. “It’s been hard work. We knew it was going to be hard work coming here especially and playing a one-off Test, and there’s no real time to learn to adapt and find the style of play, so we knew it was going to be a tough ask but I’m really proud of our group and the fight we showed.”

On the final day, India gave their all with ball and bat to thwart Australia’s spirited comeback, first collapsing the visitors’ ranks to snag the remaining five wickets for 28 and then dropping a meager target of 75 without much. Ado to write an eight-wicket win.

Smriti Mandhana (38 not out) and Jemimah Rodriguez (12 not out) embraced each other in a warm hug as the winning goal was scored against the world’s dominant team, bringing back memories of India’s muted reaction in 2008 in Australia when MS Dhoni’s side bowled over the hosts. He made a statement not to indulge in any emotional celebrations.

Playing more than one Test at home for the first time since 1995, there was not a moment when the team went wrong.

India Women stuck to their promise to play “positive cricket”, weathering every little storm along the way and largely dictating the terms against their formidable opponents in Australia and England.
