Simone Biles and her husband Jonathan Owens’ relationship has been the subject of some intense scrutiny online since the latter recently made some comments on their podcast that fans deemed disrespectful. In the midst of all this, Vogue shared a video of the gymnast’s wedding dress fitting, and the internet couldn’t help but analyze the timing.

The controversy began on December 19 when Biles and Owens appeared Pivotal Podcast, a popular sports show hosted by former NFL stars Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder, and Fred Taylor. The pair spoke about the beginning of their relationship with Owens confirming that he did not know who Biles was when they first met.

He went on to say that he wasn’t ready to commit to a relationship at the time, given his budding career. This prompted one of the hosts to say that it appears Owens is the “catch” in the relationship, to which the Green Bay Packers responded:

“I always say that men are the catch.”

Since then, the NFL player has been in hot water with Simone Biles fans online. Recently, Vogue’s official X (formerly Twitter) account shared a seemingly random throwback to a video of Biles’ fitted wedding dress. However, fans pointed out the timing of the video, with one user saying:

“Vogue being a bit of a mess bc why did I feel the need to repost this at this specific time.”

Another fan shouted:

“This was very timely.”

Here are some additional reactions to Vogue’s post:

Meanwhile, after two days of letting the internet have fun, Simone Biles decided to fight back. She wrote to X: “Are you done with everything yet?” It was accompanied by a meme of a child scratching his head and looking confused. Owens joined the conversation to say:

“I love my man baby.”

For Simone Biles, this year has been nothing short of extraordinary. She married Owens in May, in a wedding in San Lucas, Mexico.

She then continued her long-awaited return to competitive gymnastics in August at the US Classic. Here, the 26-year-old has been on top of the podium several times, proving that she is still one of the best.

Biles followed that up with a very successful outing at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. In Budapest, she won four golds and a silver, bringing her total to 31.
