“Disappointing for us,” Captain Devine said. “If we are honest, our fielding let us down, especially in the Super Over.

“I’d be tempted to back ourselves to go home in Super Overs, but that wasn’t the case.”

Devine won the toss and elected to bat first, with wicket-keeper Izzy Geese promoted to open with veteran Susie Bates. Gaze was the first to fall in the eight, as the New Zealand women struggled to build momentum early.

When Bates was out in the 15th over, New Zealand had just 43 runs on the board, but Devine and Amelia Kerr scored 56 runs in 53 balls for the third wicket.

Devine was bowled by Ghulam Fatima, but Kerr and Maddie Green combined for 70 runs, before the former departed in the same manner as her captain for 77 runs.

Green paced the remainder of the innings, finishing with 65 off 69 balls and finding late support from Jess Kerr (19 off 15 balls, including a six).

New Zealand 251/8 (A Kerr 77, Green 65 No, Devine 29; Sandhu 2/59, Fatima 2/59) Pakistan 251/9 (Ma’ruf 68, Al-Riyadh 44, Sana’ 36; Al-Tahuh 2/30, Akir 2/54)

The match was tied, Pakistan won the Super Bowl, and New Zealand won the series 2-1
