Deepa Karmakar shines all around at the National Senior Artistic Gymnastics Championships

Olympian Dipa Karmakar stole the show on day two of the 2024 Senior Artistic Gymnastics National Championships as she topped the all-around performance with a total of 49.55 points. Railways emerged champion in the women’s team category with 182.60 points.

Maharashtra secured second place with a score of 169.95, while West Bengal stood third with 166.80 points in the women’s category on the second day at the Gymnastics Center at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. Host Odisha finished fourth with 164.65 points.

Sudhir Mittal, President, Gymnastics Federation of India, graced the occasion as the chief guest of the medal ceremony today.

Deepa, who represents Tripura, received an overall score of 49.55. She scored 13.40 on the Vault, 10.65 on the Uneven Bars, 13.10 on the Balance Beam and 12.40 on the floor exercise.

Deepa expressed her happiness at topping the all-around category, saying: “I am competing in the senior nationals category after eight years, and I feel good about it, and I am really happy with my performance today. I will try to do well tomorrow.” There will also be competition for individual devices.”

“It is really great to see the gymnastics center here and I am sure it will produce a lot of Olympic and Asian gymnasts. I would also like to thank the Odisha government for building this center and creating that sporting culture for the athletes.”

Railways Pranati Das (47.00) and Swastika Ganguly (45.30) finished second and third respectively in the all-around. Pranati scored 12.80 in Vault, 10.60 in Uneven Bars, 11.50 in Balance Beam and 12.10 in floor exercise, while her teammate Swastika scored 12.80 in Vault, 9.15 in Uneven Bars, 11.70 in Balance Beam and 11. 65 in floor exercise.

Individual gymnasts in the men’s and women’s categories will compete on the final day of the National Senior Artistic Gymnastics Championships on Thursday, January 4, 2024.
