Former University of Wisconsin volleyball player Ella Wrobel will reside in the Big Ten Conference.

Wrobel, who entered the transfer portal at the end of the season, will transfer to Ohio State, she announced Saturday via her Instagram account.

Wrobel, a 6-foot-4 outside hitter from Plainfield, Ill., redshirted in 2023 as she struggled with ongoing back issues. She will have three years of eligibility with the Buckeyes, who had an 11-18 overall record this season and finished 10th in the Big Ten with an 8-12 mark.

Wrobel’s father, Garrett, played volleyball at Ohio State from 1994-97.

Wrobel was ranked No. 11 in her recruiting class by PrepVolleyball.com. She played in nine matches as a freshman in 2022, recording 11 kills (0.92 per set) and hitting .182. She set a career-high with five kills against Maryland.

Wisconsin coach Kelly Sheffield recently praised Wrobel’s dedication to the team even when injuries kept her from seeing the playing time she wanted.

“Ella is a great player, a great teammate, and she has been there all the way,” Sheffield said. “Unfortunately, she hasn’t been able to train the way she wanted to for two years. She’s a great competitor but there are a lot of things she hasn’t been able to do during training and in the off-season. It’s made her fall further and further behind the others.”

“She wasn’t forced out or asked to leave, but I think playing time in the format she has right now is going to be difficult. I think (Julia) Orzul was more likely to take over as outside hitter next year than Ella. I think she’ll probably go To a place where there is a better way to play.
