World Cup-winning skipper Pat Cummins has broken the record for the most expensive purchase at an Indian Premier League auction ever after a fierce four-way bidding war.
After leading Australia to their sixth 50-over World Cup title on Indian soil exactly a month ago, Sunrisers Hyderabad beat out Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings to exchange for the Australian captain’s services for a staggering sum of AUD 3.67 million (20.5 crores). .
At this price, Cummins has overtaken Sam Curran as the most expensive IPL buy ever after Punjab Kings paid Rs 18.5 crore for the England all-rounder in last year’s auction.
Cummins has already claimed the title of second most expensive Australian buyout behind Cameron Green last year (Rs 17.5 crore, AU$3.15 million) after Kolkata Knight Riders spent Rs 15.5 crore (A$3.16 million) in 2020.
The 30-year-old joins eventual World Cup champions Travis Head at the Sunrisers after they beat the Super Kings for Rs 6.8 crore (A$1.2 million).
