The Texas Longhorns volleyball team swept Nebraska to win the national championship on Sunday to win their second straight national championship. The UT has done this in a historic way.
Texas did something no team had ever done before in the history of NCAA women’s volleyball: win back-to-back titles via sweeps.
After the loss, there was a lot of bitterness from Nebraska coach John Cook, who was asked, “In what ways has Texas set the standards that you and other teams have to confront now?”
“I have to think about that,” Cook said. “But, uh, when you look at tonight’s game, half of their starting lineups are transfers, and they’re all fourth- and fifth-year players… So, that’s the way they built their team, and that’s “The way they built the team last year. I love what we’re doing. I love recruiting kids and trying to make them great.”

This is clearly the dilemma that occurs in all college athletics with the transfer portal and the NIL. But to Coach Cook, it seems so trivial.
Texans head coach Gerrit Elliott has been at Austin for 23 years and plays by the rules. If John Cook doesn’t like the rules, he should deal with them with the authority that college sports have.
