Six 12th grade students and coach Christy Hart are leaving the Olds High School boys volleyball team
Old women – The École Olds High School boys volleyball team will be a lot different next season.
Six 12th graders and head coach Christy Hart will leave the team.
Hart, who works in education, is taking time off from sports to focus on her studies as a full-time student.
She is very proud to leave 12th grade.
“They are an exceptional group of players, on and off the field,” Hart wrote in an email. Albertan.
“I am very proud to have worked with them over the past three years and to be a part of their volleyball journey.”
The team will be different but will still have great potential, as a ninth-tier wave is expected to hit the Spartans’ home stadium.
“It will be a younger team, but with a good foundation; I’m sure they will be successful,” Hart wrote.
The Spartans had a good run this season, winning the league championship at home, but hit a wall during districts Nov. 17-18 in Cochrane.
The Spartans faced Olds Koinonia Christian School in the league playoffs held on November 15 at the CLC Gym in Olds.
“We won in two sets (25-20, 25-15) and it was the best volleyball we played all year,” Hart wrote. “We were communicating on all fronts, we were prepared, we played as a team and we were successful because of that.
“It was a proud moment as a coach to watch your team come together and play well together after a season of hard work.
“It was a great way to go out as league champions and celebrate with the Year 12 students for whom this was their last league game.”
However, the Spartans’ performance during regions after just two days was somewhat uneven.
“We had a strong first match, beating Bow Valley, then struggled to find our rhythm in the second match against Brooks and lost in the third set,” she wrote.
The Spartans finished the round robin portion of that tournament in third place and met host Cochrane in the quarterfinals.
“We had played three games in a row, so we came into the game a bit tired, both mentally and physically,” she wrote.
“We had some great moments, but in the end, it wasn’t enough to get the win, so our season ended after the second set.”
Hart pointed out that the end of this season is the right time for a change.
“The time I spent with these athletes was amazing, but the graduation of my six core students dovetails well with my need for a break, as I am a full-time student, so I can use my ‘extra’ time to focus back on my studies,” she wrote.
