Talented Torbay gymnast
Inspirational young gymnast Willow-Mae Calland has worked her way to becoming British champion.
The 10-year-old Torquay schoolgirl competed in the British Voluntary Gymnastics Finals at the University of Surrey.
Facing older gymnasts from all over Great Britain, including Scotland and Wales, she was crowned British Voluntary Level 3 champion.
She was British champion on both beam and vault, second on floor, and was among the top 18 on bars.
Willow-May, who attends Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Primary School in Chelston, spends long hours training at South Devon Gymnastics School in Paignton.
Trainer Rachel Wignall says: “Willow is a pleasure to coach and always works her hardest in every session, and it has been great to see all that hard work pay off on the national stage.
“Few people would know the commitment, hard work and challenges it takes to achieve something like this, but Willow takes it all in her stride and is a role model within our club.”
And Willow’s dream? To represent TeamGB at the Olympics of course!
