Punjab Kings showed their ambitions for the upcoming Indian Premier League season, with some significant purchases in the IPL 2024 auction, on Tuesday. PBKS has acquired Harshal Patel, one of the best players in IPL currently $11.75 crores, which was its base price $2 Crores.
Meanwhile, PBKS also picked up English player Chris Woakes, buying him for the deal $4.2 Crores. The English base price was at $2 Crores. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Sanjay Bangar explained PBKS’ decision to go for Woakes. Having Woakes and Harshal in their squad could be pivotal next season.
“Woakes covers two positions for us – Curran and Rabada. Having an Indian seamer is of immense value. Harshal runs in the middle and is a death passer. It gives us the option of using Harshal as an impact player. That was the thinking behind getting both. Woakes and Harshal said,” he said.
South Africa’s T20 specialist Rilee Rossouw was also involved in a bidding war between PBKS and Delhi Capitals, with Punjab coming out on top with a bid of $8 Crores.
