SAN DIEGO — A group of San Diegans have already achieved their fitness goals before they ring in the new year in Mission Bay.

“We play volleyball in the cold weather,” laughs volleyball player Carrie Buckley.

New Year’s Eve

Away from the sand and on the streets of downtown San Diego, service industry workers are preparing for a big New Year’s Eve celebration.

“New Year’s is the most important holiday downtown,” said Josh Smith, general manager. “It’s the only day locals come downtown. We get tourists and locals alike. Our second busiest day since Comic-Con, New Year’s Eve.” “The year is our big holiday.” Water Grill San Diego.

At Watergrill, they prepare for the night by skillfully peeling lobsters and preparing an array of delicious appetizers and desserts while decorating the place with New Year’s Eve decor.

They’re having a specially curated four-course meal with perfectly paired wines at their event, and there’s still a chance to get tickets before the clock strikes midnight.

“We have a musician coming, an interactive photo booth and more. We have all the balloons and decorations and everything. We started preparing about three days ago,” Smith said.

As the night ticks by in anticipation, San Diegans ponder their New Year’s resolutions and anticipate the big night ahead.

“First, I want to get a dog so I need to learn how to make dog time. I want to travel more and get better at volleyball,” Jay said.

“New Year’s Resolutions! Be more consistent with work and exercise. I haven’t really thought about it. Maybe I should think about it! I hope everyone has a great New Years!” Buckley smiles.
