Jonathan Owens, the NFL player and husband of record-breaking gymnast Simone Biles, remains “unfazed” after brutal backlash for saying he was the “catch” in their relationship.
Owens, who now starts for the Green Bay Packers, has been buried under a torrent of negative backlash over his appearance on the critically acclaimed “Pivot” show headlined by former NFL star Ryan Clark.
When co-host Channing Crowder asked Owens, “How the hell did you pull Simone Biles?”, Owens admitted he “didn’t know who she was” in 2020 when they first connected via the dating app Raya. “I’m like, let me see who this is.” “I was never interested in gymnastics, so this piqued my curiosity.”
Owens quickly learned that Biles, 26, was more famous than he knew. “The first thing I saw was that she had a bunch of stuff [Instagram] Followers. “So in my mind, ‘OK, it’s got to be good,'” Owens told Clark.
Owens angered fans when he admitted he didn’t know who Biles was and had never been interested in gymnastics before he met her.
Owens said it was Pyles who reached out to him to initiate contact and then drove 45 minutes from the Houston suburbs to meet him.
““Then the rest is history,” he said.
The footballer angered fans when he said he was a “catch” despite her global fame, fame and record-breaking gymnastics feats.
“I always say that men are the catch,” and that he was “fighting” against his natural feeling of being “afraid to make mistakes” at that point in his life.
This sparked a dizzying array of angry reactions from sports and pop culture fans alike.
“😂😂😂 You don’t even have a million likes but he’s the prize? “I’m confused,” said one person on Owen’s Instagram page, while another said: “A woman is the prize no matter how much we turn everything into something… She can You make someone else nigger!!!! 🤰”
“Guys, looks like this is Simone Biles and someone,” a third person chimed in.
Owens was undeterred and said in his IG post: “Not fazed 😂❤️ Just know we’re locked in here 🤞🏽.”
