Excitement abounds when the San Jose State women’s gymnastics team kicks off its 2024 season Friday afternoon at the Mean Girls Super 16 Championships inside Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Spartans are one of 16 teams competing in Las Vegas and lead the weekend’s action in the first session with Washington, Illinois and Denver at 1 p.m.

- The Spartans return MPSF Gymnast of the Year Lauren McPherson. She was the 2023 MPSF all-around champion and competed in the all-around at the NCAA Los Angeles Regional.
- McPherson tied with Thomasina Wallace for the second-best all-around score at 39.550 in school history.
- McPherson is also the school’s combined beam record holder at 9.950.
- Jaudai Lopes was the MPSF Co-Vault Champion and competed in the NCAA Regional on vault.
- Lopez set the school vault record last season with a 9.950.
- Jada Mazury returns for her fifth year after competing on floor at the NCAA Regional Championships.
- Other returning Spartans include Kyra Cato, Natasha Forrand, Chloe Frank, Trinity Johnson, Madison Kirsch, Sofia Konieczny, Makayla McMahon, Mikayla Bates and Katherine Wehmiller.
- The Spartans welcome five new members to the team – Marissa Ashton, Mia Nelson, Ella Power, Olivia Reardon and Devin Valush.
- The Spartans are hosting four meets this season at the Provident Credit Union Events Center

- Feb. 9 vs. UC Davis at 7 p.m
