The St. Thomas More volleyball program continued its winning ways last season.
Under the guidance of coach Jessica Burke, the Cougars went 35-5 overall, won the district title and captured their third straight Division II state championship.
“We knew we had to rebuild a lot to feel comfortable with the new pieces,” Burke said. “But I’m an optimist, so I thought we could win state again.”
For her efforts and the Cougars’ success, Burke was named the Acadiana Advocate’s All-Metro Volleyball Coach of the Year.
“I don’t take any of this for granted,” Burke said. “We have a lot of great coaches in the area and I admire them. They all work hard, so this is really an honor.”
