Simone Biles’ husband, Jonathan Owens, doesn’t care about the backlash after his comments that he’s the “catch” in their marriage.
Owens – a 28-year-old NFL player – married star gymnast Biles, 26, earlier this year, and recently claimed in the interview that “men are the catch.”
Tell the hub Podcast: “I say, let me see who this is.” “I was never interested in gymnastics, so this piqued my curiosity.”
“The first thing I saw was that she had a bunch of stuff [Instagram] Followers. So I’m like, “Okay, it should be good.”
“I always say guys are the catch. I’m like, ‘It’s kinda early.’ [to commit]’. But you know, it happens when you least expect it. When we stopped, we turned it off immediately. I laughed all night.”
Despite the backlash to his comments, Owens claimed he was “unfazed”, sharing a number of photos of them together on Instagram with the caption: “Just know we’re locked in here.”
In the podcast interview, Owens said he had no idea who Biles was when they first connected through the dating app Raya.
“When she won the Olympics, I was in college and we didn’t have NBC, we didn’t have Olympic channels, we were in… [training] camp [in] Late July and early August.
“So I don’t care. I never had a moment where I was going to watch it [her compete]”.
He revealed that Biles called him first and they texted back and forth before meeting in person three days later.
“We couldn’t do much because Covid happened and shut everything down,” he said. So she came to Houston. She lived in the suburbs, so she had to drive about 45 minutes. Then the rest is history.
