Tom McIntosh has officially announced his retirement from professional cricket, effective immediately.

This decision marks the end of his six-year association with Durham and his international career with Scotland. McIntosh is now ready to pursue his university studies in real estate.

A product of the Durham Cricket Academy, McIntosh began his journey with the club at under-15 level, eventually making his first-class debut in 2022. His debut saw an impressive debut 50 and six catches behind the stumps against Derbyshire. Throughout the 2022 season, he played in four Division I games, earning a total of 21 points, including a notable diving catch to sack Billy Godman for 3.

In his time with Durham, the 20-year-old showcased his skills in red and white-ball cricket, making 15 appearances and making a best of 51 first-class and List A bests of 53.

As a wicket-keeper, McIntosh represented Scotland on the national stage 12 times, participating in two World Cup qualifiers and the Under-19 World Cup. His international debut for Nepal in February 2023 contributed to Scotland winning the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2. Despite being unable to qualify for the 50-over World Cup in Zimbabwe, McIntosh continued to make significant contributions.

His last appearances for Scotland occurred in July in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifier against Austria and Denmark, where he played a crucial role in securing qualification for the upcoming 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Commenting on his retirement, Tom McIntosh expressed his gratitude to Durham and Cricket Scotland, highlighting the special moments and friendships he has made during his cricketing journey. He thanked Durham players, staff and members for their support and acknowledged the honor of representing Durham and his country.

Durham Director of Cricket, Marcus North, praised McIntosh’s professionalism and contributions to the team, expressing support for his decision to focus on his property degree. Scottish cricketer Toby Bailey echoed these sentiments, recognizing McIntosh’s importance to the national team and wishing him success in his future endeavours.

As McIntosh begins a new chapter outside of cricket, both Durham and Cricket Scotland extend their best wishes for his future endeavours.
