FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – After five years with the Purdue volleyball team, Maddie Schermerhorn is ready for a new challenge in the inaugural season of the Professional Volleyball Association. The West Noble graduate was selected 31st overall by the Vegas Thrill, which begins its season in late January.

The defensive specialist was one of several prominent local volleyball players who coached kids during a skills camp held Wednesday at Empowered Sports Club.

Schermerhorn anchored Purdue’s defense during her time in West Lafayette. The defensive specialist led the Boilermakers with 570 digs while adding 16 aces. Schermerhorn also ranks fifth all-time in career wins with Purdue, earning $1,461 during her tenure.

After her career in the Big Ten world, Schermerhorn is looking forward to starting her career in the newly formed PVF.
