GYM: JaFree Scott scores a perfect 10 on bars as Georgia gymnastics team scores 197,000 in annual first look
“The first look went well,” coach Courtney Kopets-Carter said. “You never know what to expect with so many freshmen competing, especially while running the meet a little differently than a normal meet. We got the jump start, got everyone out there, and I thought overall they did a really good job, and that put us in the A good place to start the year with a really high score.
The GymDogs got off to a strong start with a 49.075 on vault, led by Haley de Jong’s 9.875 and Jaydah Battle and Amanda Cashman also contributing 9.825 as well.
The team then posted an impressive 49.625 on bars, with Scott earning 10 points and the four Bulldogs totaling 9.900.
On balance beam, freshman Holly Snyder led the team with a score of 9.850 as Georgia earned 49.000 points on the event. Cashman and de Jong both finished with a team-high 9.925 on floor, contributing to a total of 49.300 on floor.
De Jong and Snyder were the Bulldogs’ all-around competitors, earning scores of 39.525 and 39.225, respectively.
Georgia will begin its season against NC State on Saturday, January 6 at 3:45 PM at Stegman Coliseum. The event will be broadcast live on the SEC Network+. This will be the fifth time the two programs have met, as Georgia has won all four previous contests. Most recently, the GymDogs defeated the Wolfpack seven years ago on the same date by a score of 196.875-194.800.
