CLEMSON — Friday night at Littlejohn Coliseum, the Clemson gymnastics team took the floor for the exhibition meet.
Head coach Amy Smith spoke with the media after the meet to express her excitement for Clemson gymnastics’ first season.
– Coach Smith was full of excitement after the exhibition meet on Friday night. “I’m speechless right now because I can’t believe the day has finally come where we have to do this,” Smith said. Since this is gymnastics’ first season, the team wasn’t sure how big of a turnout they would get, but Smith said, “Everything here has far exceeded all expectations.”
-Coach Smith was asked what her gymnasts were telling her while trying out Littlejohn and performing in front of a large crowd. “How fun it was, how amazing it was, and once again the fans are doing this experience, so we’re really appreciative of everyone who came out and supported us tonight,” she said.
– With the exhibition match taking place tonight, there is still a lot of training to be done before the official start of the season. “Tonight we didn’t give it our best effort… because we only have a month left to practice… really, really excited to get back and practice and get back here on January 12 and really have success,” Smith said.
