Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens recently appeared on an episode of the Green Bay Packers podcast Pivotal Podcastthe 28-year-old detailed how he met his wife, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles.
While many fans know that the two connected via the dating app Raya in 2020, Owens revealed other details regarding their flirtation in the episode. When Owens was single and playing for the Houston Texans, a friend suggested he join the private social network and he decided to give it a try.
“Literally, I’ve been using the app for a few days and it’s… [Biles] It pops up and I’m like, “Let me see who this is.” Gymnastics? I’m never…you know, I’ve never been interested in gymnastics, so that piqued my curiosity, you know?”
After the game, Biles, 26, liked several photos of Owens on Instagram, and shortly afterward, sent the NFL star a message via the app. Owens admitted that although he didn’t know who Biles was at the time, she had a lot of followers, so he assumed it was a big deal.
“She texted me, it was like Tuesday, and we were texting back and forth and then we had a good time on Friday,” he added. “…So the rest is history, man.”
Biles and Owens got engaged in February of 2022 and tied the knot this spring in two different ceremonies — one set of courthouse weddings in April and a wedding with friends and family in Mexico the following month.
