MGA sees success at Big Dog Meet | News, sports, jobs

ELKINS – Mountain Gymnastics Academy gymnasts competed against 16 other teams at the Big Dog Gymnastics Meet in Charleston.

Xcel bronze gymnast Maddie Garner of Beverly came in second on vault, and first in all other events including the all-around.

Aubrey Jellerson of Elkins placed second on bars, floor and all around.

Alexis Riffle of Elkins took first on bars, second on vault, and third in the all-around.

Colton’s Ella McCauley placed second on floor and third in the all-around. JJ Stalnaker of Beverly took second on bars, and Esme Heckler of Mill Creek took third in the all-around.

Bronze gymnast Maddie Garner came second on vault and first in all other events including the all-around.

In the Xcel Silver division, Billington’s Michelle Gassnola took second on bars, and Philippi’s Payton Shahan took second on beam.

Xcel Platinum gymnast Liz Jones of Elkins won her division on floor and placed second on both vault and all around.

Maddie Hurst of Elkins took second on vault, and Mackenzie Phillips of Philippi was third in the all-around.

Level 5 gymnast Kailyn Kirkpatrick of Elkins took second on beam, and Level 8 gymnast Lily Hayes took first on beam.

The Big Dog Meet is unique in that levels 6 and above can qualify for the finals.

Level 7 gymnast Claire Kniven qualified for the finals on floor, and Level 8 gymnast Lily Hayes qualified on beam.

The Mountain Gymnastics Academy teams travel to two separate meets this weekend.

The Bronze, Silver, Gold and Level 4 gymnasts head to Morgantown to compete in the Seasons Greetings meet.

The Platinum and Diamond teams join Level 6, 7 and 8 gymnasts in Baltimore for Christmas at the Chesapeake meet with more than 3,000 competitors from more than 80 gymnastics clubs competing.

Mountain Gymnastics Academy offers gymnastics training for boys and girls ages 18 months to 18 years and all skill levels from Randolph and surrounding counties.
