The Nigerian U-17 volleyball team achieved victory in its second match in the 2023 African U-17 Volleyball Championship, defeating its Cameroonian counterpart 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-22) in the group. B at Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
Despite losing the first set 19-25, the Nigerian girls showed remarkable resilience and regained their balance to win the remaining three sets. Their determination and fighting spirit shone as they achieved a decisive victory.
Nigerian national team coach, Sunday Akapson, praised the performance of his players but urged them to maintain focus and determination to continue their journey in the tournament. He warned: “We cannot rejoice yet because we still have matches to play.”
Nigeria’s victory over Cameroon represents an important step forward in their journey. They will face Cameroon again in the semi-finals on Wednesday, hoping to secure a place in the final and secure the coveted title.
The 2023 African Nations Under-17 Girls Volleyball Championship, which started on Saturday, is expected to conclude on December 8. With Nigeria’s impressive performance, the tournament is expected to be exciting and closely contested.
