Former Indian cricketer and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) supporter, Dodda Ganesh was angry at the way RCB went about their plans in the IPL 2024 auction. The former Karnataka player feels that the Bengaluru-based franchise did not care about the major holes in their squad.
After the player retentions were announced, RCB, just like many other teams, had some areas to work on to complete their squad. After a blockbuster trade involving Cameron Green, they cut their available portfolio almost in half.
Dodda Ganesh claimed that ardent RCB fans would have made more rational decisions had they been given a say alongside the think tank in the auction. In this regard, here is what he posted on X:
“Give RCB fans half the money from the wallet and keen on the auction table; I bet you, our fans will pick a very balanced team for all conditions and probably save some money too. I can’t believe a crkt pro team can do such initial mistakes #IPL2024”
Dodda Ganesh also questioned RCB’s signing of Yash Dayal
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s focus seems to be working on their bowling department after releasing a number of bowlers. However, Dodda Ganesh was confused when he saw them spending a whopping Rs 5 crore on left-arm spinner Yash Dayal.
The Uttar Pradesh pacer had a forgettable season in IPL 2023, as he was smashed for five sixes off five balls by Rinku Singh, in a match that dented the player’s confidence. Regarding this, Ganesh said:
“Any player can have a bad day. Yash Dayal too had a bad day. He is still a good player and has good #SMAT returns. However, spending 5cr on him, is simply ridiculous, RCB. My mind is boggling 😳 #IPL2024”
Having spent Rs 11.5 crore on Alzarri Joseph, a relatively inexperienced bowler, it will be interesting to see which four foreigners field RCB in advance.
