Over the weekend, Jonathan Owens — the NFL player also known as Simone Biles’ husband — came under fire for saying on a podcast that he didn’t know who Biles was when they first met and that he was the “catch” in the pair’s relationship. .
Owens, a Green Bay Packers tight end, told the podcast hosts that he met Biles on the dating app Raya, adding that he had no idea who she was. Biles is the most decorated athlete of all time.
Fans quickly took issue with his statement, as well as his stance on who is the “catch” in their partnership.
“I always say guys are the catch,” Owens said.
Social media users spent the weekend dragging Owens down, with some calling him a “red flag” and others, perhaps jokingly, calling for a divorce.
Saturday evening, Biles fired off a quick post to X. Without mentioning the podcast or her husband’s comments, she seemed to take a stand on the uproar.
“Are you all done yet?” Gymnast wrote with a meme.
Owens’ comments came the same week the Associated Press named Biles Female Athlete of the Year — for the third year in a row. Biles also has 30 world championship medals, making her the most decorated athlete in history, according to the Olympics.
Her widespread success has led fans to wonder why her husband didn’t at least know about her when they met.
“When she won the Olympics, I was in college, and we didn’t have NBC,” Owens said on the podcast. “We had no channels for the Olympics while we were in camp. We are in camp in late July, early August.”
