The Indian women’s cricket team created history by securing their maiden Test win over Australia with an eight-wicket win in the one-off Test at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, December 24.
The hosts produced an impressive performance on day four, outscoring Australia in all departments. India picked up the remaining five wickets for just 28 runs and then chased down the modest target of 75 runs with ease.
After the match, Australian captain Alyssa Healy won hearts with her amazing gesture for the Indian team. She was seen taking pictures of the Indian players celebrating the trophy.
For India, Deepti Sharma (78), Smriti Mandhana (74), Jemima Rodriguez (73), and Richa Ghosh (52) hit fine half-centuries in the first innings, helping the team post an impressive total of 406 runs. Sneh Rana was the pick of the bowlers, finishing the match with seven wickets.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised the team’s support staff after the team’s historic win in Mumbai. She also talked about how they take a positive approach to the red ball.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Corr said:
“It’s a reward for all the hard work we’ve put in for so many years. It’s a credit to all our support staff, especially the bowling coach and the batting coach. We’ve tried to keep things very simple. It’s a reward for all the hard work and all the patience.” We thought if we could play some positive cricket, it could really help us. We have played with this group for many years and if we can play a little bit here and there.”
The 34-year-old thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the opportunity and expressed hope that India will be able to play more Test matches in the future, adding:
“Firstly, I would like to thank the BCCI for giving us this opportunity, and secondly, everyone who chose us – they gave us the best side and showed confidence in every member.
